Howard Morton (1925 -- 1997) was an American actor.
A tall man with comedic talent, Morton appeared as Dolph Sweet's police subordinate on Gimme a Break, and appeared in many other TV shows and films.
In his last years he was linked romantically with actress Jean Stapleton.
Morton died of a stroke four days before his 72nd birthday.
