Madhuri Dixit (माधà¥à¤°à¥€ दिकà¥à¤·à¤¿à¤¤) (born May 15, 1967) is an Indian Bollywood actress She is a native of Mumbai, India. Throughout the late 1980s and the 1990s, she dominated Hindi cinema, appearing in many hit films and proving to be one of the most successful superstars of the Indian film industry.
Her first major role was in Tezaab (1988). She starred in the popular films Dil (1990), Beta (1992), and Khal Nayak (1993). Her best known role may be as Nisha in the super-hit Hum Aapke Hain Kaun! (1994). She also appeared in the successful Dil To Pagal Hai (1997). For several years, she was the most popular and powerful actress of Bollywood, known for her acting, beauty and accomplished, sensuous dancing.
Dixit continues to act, although she is more selective about her films since marriage. Madhuri now splits her time between Mumbai and Denver. She married a Denver physician, Dr. Sriram Nene, in 1999. She has two children, a boy named Areen (born in 2003) and a baby boy born in March 2005.
In 2002, she starred in Devdas, with actor Shahrukh Khan and Miss World 1994 Aishwarya Rai. Madhuri Dixit was applauded for her superb acting in the film. The film attracted worldwide attention and was featured at the Cannes Film Festival.
Madhuri Dixit has been the muse for well-known Indian painter M.F. Hussain who considers her the epitome of the Indian woman - beautiful and intelligent. She also appeared in his film Gaja Gamini (2000).
She has won four Filmfare Awards for Best Actress, as well as a Best Actress in a Supporting Role award for her work in the 2002 film Devdas. Other awards in her kitty include: Screen, Sansui Viwers choice, Zee Cinema etc.
