From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia Ted Levine (born 29 May 1958 in Parma, Ohio) is an American actor. He is probably best known for his role as demented serial killer Jame 'Buffalo Bill' Gumb in the 1991 blockbuster thriller The Silence of the Lambs. Many of the parts that soon followed were often roles as bad guys and psychos, which often an actor's nightmare is typcasting. Levine avoided this later on his career by playing more protagonist-oriented roles, such as a member of Al Pacino's police unit in Heat, astronaut Alan Shepherd in the HBO mini-series From The Earth To The Moon, and Paul Walker's police superior in The Fast and the Furious.
Levine attended Marlboro College and the University of Chicago. He began acting in theatre but now devotes most of his energy towards film and television, including the 1980s TV series Crime Story and ABC's short-lived series Wonderland in 2000. Film credits include Heat, Evolution, Moby Dick (TV), and Harlan County War. Since 2002, he has co-starred with Tony Shalhoub as Captain Leland Stottlemeyer on USA Network's popular detective series Monk.
Levine is married to Kim Philips and has two children.
