- Sara Dylan nee Shirley Noznisky, later, Sara Lownds. First wife of singer/songwriter Bob Dylan She of "Sara","Sad Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands" "Idiot Wind" " Tangled Up In Blue" "Love Minus Zero/No Limit" etc, fame. Ex fashion model. Mother of Jesse Dylan and Jakob Dylan She was and still is, refered to as "Sara Lownds, wife of Bob Dylan", which is inaccurate,as Dylan is NOT a stage name. She took her Husband's LEGAL NAME thereby, becoming Sara Dylan when she married, and retained it after their divorce. See;("People with the Surname Dylan) She met Dylan around 1962,NOT 1964 whilst driving around Greenwich Village in her M.G.sports car. Her meeting with Dylan was cited by her then husband,Hans Lownds as the breakdown of their marriage.Hans, born Heinz Ludwig Lowenstein in Germany 1914, fled to the U.S.A.(being a German Jew)in the 1930's changing his name to Henry Louis Lownds-"Hans" was a nickname. It was "Hans" who got Shirley to change her name to Sara, saying;"I can't be married to a woman named Shirley".
Hans would, it's said, often refer to Dylan disdianfully,as "Zimmerman" until the day he died. Whilst it is a common misconception that "Sad Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands" was the first song Bob wrote for Sara, it is widely thought to be,"Love Minus Zero/No Limit". Shirley Marlin Noznisky was born in Wilmington,Delaware on October 28,1939 and not 1940,as widely reported. During a Dylan tour break,on the 22nd of November 1965,Bob Dylan married Sara Lownds in a secret ceremony. It took place under an oak tree, on a judges lawn on Long Island. The only guests were Albert Grossman and a maid of honor for Sara. (This was NOT Sally Grossman as reported.) No one else attended the wedding. To both Bob and Sara Dylan's credit, she was and still remains, one of the most low profile wives in the history of popular music.
