Biography
Rick Strom is a Los Angeles, California based electronic music producer. He is a triple threat: a self-taught musician, educated in Mathematics and Computer Science (at the University of California, Santa Barbara), and did his Masters studies in Film Production. It isn't surprising, then, that Strom's projects vary between software development (although seldom music related), songwriting and filmmaking. His most recent project (as of early 2005) is a short film called 6:4/e, an almost entirely musical film for which he wrote the score.
Strom's music is somewhere between Massive Attack and Autechre, while sounding similar to neither. His tracks mix complex beats with both artificial and natural sounds and samples, but do so in an organic fashion that has led some to describe his music as experimental but accessible.
Rick Strom was, shortly, signed to the Water Music Records/Universal label in 2001, but his album "Flow" was subsequently released as a free MP3 release on his Glowdot site.
Notable collaborations include Julee Cruise (David Lynch/Twin Peaks) and Nastassja Kinski (daughter of Klaus Kinski).
Strom has recently moved into the Internet realm, founding several entertainment and community themed sites (Glowfoto, Falling Skies and Glowdot among them).
