Rachel Portman (born 11 December 1960, Haslemere, England) is a British composer, best known for her film work. She was the first woman composer to win an Academy Award (for Emma, 1996). She later received praise for her scores to the films The Cider House Rules (1999) and Chocolat (2000).
Portman was educated at Oxford University, (Worcester College).
