Jeff "Skunk" Baxter

Jeff "Skunk" Baxter (born December 13, 1948 in Washington, D.C.) is an American rock guitarist. Allegedly, he got his nickname from «an antisocial habit». His career started with the Ultimate Spinach, after being asked while working in a music store if he had any musical talent. His first notable experience was with Steely Dan. As a member of the Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan, and as a session guitarist for Carly Simon, Bryan Adams, Ringo Starr and many others, Jeff "Skunk" Baxter has been a clandestine rock and roll hero since the '70s. Now, as a specialist in terrorism, missile defense and chemical and biological warfare, he's also a covert hero for the U.S. military.

He's currently working for the Department of Defense as an adviser to the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization and has also served as a top military adviser for numerous congressmen and senators. National Security Advisor and guitarist extraordinaire on hundreds of albums, jingles, and movie and TV soundtracks. He is most known for playing with the Doobie Brothers, starting in 1974. He later did work for the television show King of the Hill. Now he is mostly a studio musician for artists such as Eric Clapton and Sheryl Crow.

Baxter is also a self-taught expert on missile defense systems and strategic planning, and serves as a consultant to the Pentagon, and other DoD entities.

In 2000, he ran (and lost) for a seat United States House of Representatives, representing the San Fernando Valley in California.

In April 2005, he joined the NASA Exploration Systems Advisory Committee (ESAC).

His distinctive Beret, which he constantly wears, has been made note of.
