David Madden on Jeopardy!

David Madden (born June 13, 1981) is a nineteen-time champion on the television game show Jeopardy!, between July 5, 2005, and September 19, 2005. Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek has remarked that David consistently achieves runaway games (where one person's score is more than twice that of the second-place contestant at the end of the Double Jeopardy! round). Madden's victory streak came to an end on September 19, 2005, when he was defeated by Victoria Groce, a musician from Decatur, Georgia, who was then defeated on the following day. Madden was in third place going into Final Jeopardy where the category was Ranks and Titles. He got the Final Jeopardy answer Who was Julius Caesar? correct and moved into first place. However, Groce, who was leading going into Final Jeopardy, also got the correct answer and had bet enough to win the game, thereby ending Madden's streak at 19 games. Groce was defeated the following day; however, unlike Nancy Zerg (the player that defeated Ken Jennings), Groce led prior to Final Jeopardy! in her title defense.

David's final earnings totaled $432,400. He has already beaten Tom Walsh's milestones of consecutive wins and all-time earnings, further displacing Walsh from second to third in all-time standings for those two categories.

In addition to his 'runaway' record, his play features strategic wagers, only two misses on a Daily Double in nineteen games, and the selection of higher valued clues when approaching a category, likely 'fishing' for the Daily Doubles.

He is a graduate of Princeton University, originally from Ridgewood, New Jersey, and currently lives in Berlin, Germany where he is a graduate student pursuing his master's degree in International relations.
