Andrew Henry is also the name of American fur trapper Major Andrew Henry (c. 1775-1832)
Andrew Henry (November 1, 1823 - October 14, 1870) was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
Details
He was 31 years old, and a Sergeant-Major in the Royal Regiment of Artillery, British Army during the Crimean War when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC.
On 5 November 1854 at the Battle of Inkerman, Crimea, Sergeant-Major Henry defended the guns of his battery against overwhelming numbers of the enemy, and continued to do so until he had received 12 bayonet wounds and became unconscious.
