Malcolm Gets is an American actor born on December 28, 1964. He is best known for his role as Richard in the American television sitcom Caroline in the City (1995-1999).

Gets is also a talented dancer, singer, composer, classically trained pianist, vocal director, and choreographer. His Broadway credits include The Molière Comedies and Amour. He was nominated for a Tony in 2003 for his work in Amour. In addition to his Broadway work, he has several off-Broadway credits including 1776 and A New Brain.

Early years

Gets was born in Chicago, Illinois, but soon moved with his family to New Jersey. He lived there until he was five. His family eventually moved to Gainsville, Florida.

Gets started studying performing arts early in life. He started studying piano at age 9. This skill helped him pay his way through college. He began singing lessons at 14. He also danced with a studio in Gainsville, Florida, as a teenager.

Family

Gets is the son of Lispbeth, a special educationist, and Terence, a college textbook representative. Gets is one of the second youngest of four children, two sisters and a brother.

Education

Gets skipped two years of K-12 education and graduated from Buchholz High School in Gainesville, Florida, at the age of 16. He then attended the University of Florida, where he earned a BA in Theatre. Following that he completed an MFA at the Yale Drama School.
