From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia Al Lettieri (February 24, 1928–October 18, 1975) was an American actor. In a film career lasting just eleven years, Lettieri played a series of memorable villains such as Steve McQueen's nemesis in The Getaway, Charles Bronson's opponent in Mr. Majestyk, and most memorably, as Virgil 'Turk' Sollozzo in The Godfather—including the famous scene where Sollozzo and his police-captain bodyguard are gunned down by Michael Corleone over their spaghetti, in an Italian trattoria.
Lettieri convincingly projected a remarkable aura of menace and ruthlessness in his film roles, which he himself attributed to his acquaintance with real-life gangsters, including Joey Gallo.
Al Lettieri died of a heart attack in 1975, at the age of 47.
