Justin Tyler Berfield (born Tuesday, February 25, 1986 in Los Angeles County, California) is a Jewish-American actor and, recently, a producer who began acting at the age of five when he appeared in a Folgers Coffee commercial. Since then, he has appeared in 15 other American television commercials, giving rise to the nick-name The Commercial Kid. His television debut came in 1994 when he starred in The Good Life. Berfield is best known for his portrayal of the character Reese, the second-oldest brother in the Fox Network television sitcom Malcolm in the Middle. In 1995, he began to play the role of Ross Malloy, the youngest sibling in The WB sitcom Unhappily Ever After, continuing in the role for 5 seasons.
In both Malcolm in the Middle and Unhappily Ever After he appeared in over 100 episodes, making him the youngest person in television history to be in over 100 episodes of two different television shows.
In 2002, Berfield served as a national youth ambassador for Ronald McDonald House Charities. He is the younger brother of actor Lorne Berfield. Justin owns two million-dollar homes in the Los Angeles area, a recently purchased two-bedroom ocean-front condo in Malibu, and a house in Studio City, the city where Malcolm in the Middle is filmed in.
J2 Entertainment
Berfield, with writer/producer Jason Felts, created a television and film production company, J2 Entertainment (also called J2TV), and became a co-producer of the Coen Brothers/John Turturro directed musical film Romance & Cigarettes (2005). They are also producers of the upcoming The 1 Second Film, now in post-production, due to be released in 2006.
J2TV announced in December 2004 a new reality series for E! (Entertainment Television), Filthy Rich (premiered Sunday, August 7, 2005 at 9:00pm EST/PST), a challenge-based reality series centered on the children of actors and musicians removed from their luxurious lifestyles and sent out on a cattle drive on a historic Colorado cattle ranch. The project is in partnership with Joe Simpson, Jessica Simpson's father. Berfield and Felts will share "created by" and executive producing duties with Simpson. This is the first television project sold by J2TV. 1
J2 is developing a slate of projects for network and cable television as well as feature films.
