Barry Gibb (born Barry Alan Crompton Gibb on 1 September 1946 in Douglas, Isle of Man) is a singer and songwriter and a member of the band the Bee Gees. In 1958, his family moved to Brisbane, Australia, where he and brothers, twins Robin and Maurice, formed the Bee Gees, who would become one of the most successful pop groups of all time. During their five decade career, they have sold more than 110 million albums.
Barry Gibb is one of the most successful and influential persons in pop music history, both as an artist, songwriter and producer. In 1978 he had 5 of his songs on the US top 10 at the same time. Several movies also feature Barry Gibb songs, for instance "Hawks", "Notting Hill" and "Charlie's Angels II", and his songs regularly pop up in various TV series, such as "The A-Team", "The Nanny" and "Providence".
Barry Gibb is also active as a producer and has produced 16 number one hits for the Bee Gees and other artists, including Barbra Streisand (Woman in Love), Frankie Valli (Grease), Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton (Islands in the Stream), and Diana Ross (Chain Reaction).
In 1994, Barry Gibb was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and in 1997 was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
