Michael Doughty (born June 10, 1970), often credited as Mike Doughty or M. Doughty, is a rock musician, best known for his work as songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist for the band Soul Coughing from 1993 to 2000.

Born in Fort Knox, Kentucky, Doughty moved to New York City to study poetry at New School University (Ani DiFranco was one of his classmates.)

From 1991 to 2000, Doughty was a heavy drug user, becoming especially fond of heroin, but the band's breakup led to a new era of sobriety; he has been clean ever since. Doughty continues to perform music, primarily solo but also as a guest for such groups and artists as BT, They Might Be Giants, John Zorn, 808 State, Mecca Bodega, Mitchell Froom, former bandmate Mark De Gli Antoni, and State of the Union.

Doughty was signed in November of 2004 to Dave Matthews' ATO Records label, and released a packaged set of two earlier albums, Skittish / Rockity Roll, featuring the anti-Iraq War anthem "Move On." He then produced a new album, Haughty Melodic (an anagram of his name), produced by Dan Wilson of Semisonic, and released in spring of 2005. Unlike his previous albums, it was recorded with a full band.

Doughty is currently on tour with his band named Mike Doughty's band. Members include:"Handsome" Dan Chen - keyboards, Pete McNeil - drums, and Andrew "Scrap" Livingston - upright bass.
