Paulina Rubio Dosamantes (born June 17, 1973) is a Mexican singer of Latin Pop. She is the daughter of Susana Dosamantes, a Mexican actress. Rubio's music is popular in Latin America and also in the United States amongst the Spanish-speaking population. In fact, she is considered to be (along with Shakira and Thalia )to be the latin equivalent of Britney Spears. Paulina was born in Mexico City, Mexico.

She began her career when she was nine years old in 1980. She debuted with a music group called Timbiriche, recording about 10 cassettes. Rubio turned to acting in soap operas on Mexican television. She landed her first role in 1988, as a villain in Pasion y Poder (Passion and Power). In 1990 she starred in Baila Conmigo and in 1994 she made her film debut in Mexican cinema in a movie called Besame en la Boca and in 1995 in Pobre Niña Rica.

In 1990, Rubio left Timbiriche and focused on launching a solo career. In 1992, she released her first CD titled, La Chica Dorada. In 1993 she released 24 kilates. In 1995, El Tiempo es Oro. In 1996 Planeta Paulina. In 2000 Paulina. This CD was a nominee at the 2nd Annual Latin Grammy Awards, and in 2002 Border Girl, which included her first foray into English language-Pop. Her smash hit, "Don't Say Goodbye" rose to the number one spot on the Billboard list. Although her debut english album didn't launch her into super stardom, it did give Paulina the international recognition she fought for years.

In 2004, Rubio returned with a Spanish language album titled Pau-latina. Rubio explained that "Pau-latina" has several meanings, such as similarity to her name Paulina, the Catalan word pau meaning peace, and latina. Recently songs on the album such as Algo Tienes and Dame Otro Tequila have become major hits making her one of the best selling female pop artist of México and Latin America. With 'Paulatina', Rubio received a "Premio Lo Nuestro" the spanish equivalent to the Grammy, as the Best Female of the year and "Premios Juventud", given by the audience who vote online and polls. Paulina Rubio is 'till this day a house hold name in the Spanish speaking world. Recently she was involved with a feud with fellow latin pop superstar, Thalia.
