Amrish Puri

Amrish Puri (अमरीश पुरी) (June 22, 1932 - January 12, 2005) was an Indian actor. He played character roles and was more popular as a villain. He was most familiar to American audiences for his role as the character Mola Ram against Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones in the Steven Spielberg movie Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. The actor was an instant celebrity with the dialogue Mogambo khush hua (It makes Mogambo happy) of Mr. India, directed by Shekhar Kapur. He was also immensely popular among Asian Brits with the character Baldev Singh in the Indian blockbuster Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge.

Amrish Puri played memorable roles in quite a few Telugu movies, too. Puri was quite popular among the Telugu movie fans after his lead antagonist roles in blockbuster movies such as Jagadeka Veerudu-Atiloka Sundari, Major Chandrakant, Aditya-369, Kondaveeti Donga, Aswamedham, Aakhari Poratam etc. He played lead roles against all contemporary superstars in Telugu. Puri used to do his dubbing in Telugu for himself. Apart from his acting skills he was popular for his dialogue delivery and bass voice. He is also know for his antagonist role in the Tamil movie "Thalapathy" opposite South Indian superstars Rajinikanth and Mammoty.

He was the younger brother of actor Madan Puri.

He died in Mumbai of a brain haemorrhage.
