Flagg as Stoney in Five Easy Pieces

Fannie Flagg (born September 21, 1944 in Birmingham, Alabama) is an American author and actress. She was born Patricia Neal, a name she evidently could not use as there was already an actress named Patricia Neal, and an Oscar winner to boot.

Her acting credits include the Broadway production of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, the movies Five Easy Pieces, Stay Hungry, Grease, and Crazy in Alabama, as well as minor roles in various television shows. She was also a popular celebrity guest on game shows like the Match Game.

Since the early 1980s, she has focused more on writing, producing such bestselling novels as Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man and Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe. She wrote the screenplay to Fried Green Tomatoes, the well-received 1991 movie based on the latter book, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award. Fried Green Tomatoes starred Jessica Tandy, Kathy Bates, Mary Stuart Masterson, Mary Louise Parker, and Cicely Tyson.

She was the long time companion of author Rita Mae Brown who outed her.

She suffers from dyslexia and adult attention deficit disorder AADD.
