From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia Kalevi Aho (born 9 March 1949 in Forssa, Finland) is a Finnish composer. He first came to fame in the 1970s with his neo-classical music, but during the next decade he wrote in modernist and post-modernist styles. To date he has composed eleven symphonies as well as several sonatas and string quartets. In terms of his approach to work, he has been compared to Gustav Mahler - his early work may also be seen as distinctly influenced by the music of Dmitri Shostakovich.
