Lance Burton, full name William Lance Burton (born 10 March 1960 in Louisville, Kentucky), is a famed American stage magician who performs in his own show at the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. Burton performs nightly in the custom-built 1,274-seat Lance Burton Theatre.
Burton was hailed as "the most brilliant magician of this century" by Dai Vernon, who is widely acknowledged as one of the most influential close-up magicians of the 20th century. He has twice been awarded "Magician of the Year" by the Academy of Magical Arts.
He won the Grand Prix Award at FISM in 1982 for his performance, where Burton stood in a street scene in traditional top hat and tails and spectaculary produced doves, candles and gentleman's walking canes from nowhere.
Burton was almost killed when an escape he was performing on the tracks of the Desparado rollercoaster in Primm, Nevada, didn't go according to plan. He found he could not free himself easily, and he escaped within seconds of the rollercoaster train hurtling past him.
He married Melinda Saxe in August 1993, but they divorced a year later.
