Chuck Woolery (born March 16, 1941) is a popular game show host. One of the most recognizable faces in game show television, he has hosted Wheel of Fortune (1975-1981), Love Connection (1983-1993 (est.)), Scrabble (1984-1990, 1993), The Home and Family Show (1996-97, co-host), Greed (1999-2000), The Dating Game (1999 update), and Lingo (2002-present). In addition, he was the subject of a reality show, Chuck Woolery: Naturally Stoned (2003), and recently served as the announcer for GSN's "coming up" bumpers.
Woolery was born in Ashland, Kentucky and grew up an avid fisherman. He made his first foray into the entertainment business as a member of the band Avant-Garde with his partner Elkin "Bubba" Fowler. In 1968, Avant-Garde produced a moderate hit, Naturally Stoned (which inspired the name for Woolery's reality series on GSN).
At the urging of television host Merv Griffin, Woolery accepted hosting duties for newly created game show Wheel of Fortune in 1975. Combining strong looks with casual wit and unbounded charm, Woolery has since become one of the most respected and liked game show hosts in the business, having hosted hit shows Love Connection and Greed.
On Greed, Woolery was the victim of a team that did not know about his past game show resume. On a question about himself, the team was to pick out the game show that he had not hosted. The choices were Wheel of Fortune, Scrabble, Love Connection and Singled Out. The correct answer was Singled Out, but one of the team members selected Wheel of Fortune, claiming that he had followed his career over the years. The team captain agreed with the team member, and so the team won nothing. It was the only time that a team lost on the first question.
Woolery has his own line of motorized fishing lures, MotoLures.
Woolery had been married three times and has eight children. He lives in Venice, California.
His current show, Lingo, is in its fourth season on GSN.
