From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia Andrea Martin (born January 15, 1947 in Portland, Maine) is an American actress and comedienne of Armenian descent.
Her most famous work was on the sketch comedy television series Second City Television. Her best known recurring role on it was Edith Prickley, a flamboyant television producer at the television station in Melonville. She also played Wanda the Word Fairy in numerous short segments on Sesame Street.
One of Martin's first prominent roles was as the bookish sorority sister Phyllis in the 1974 Canadian slasher Black Christmas. Other famous roles include Aunt Voula in the popular film My Big Fat Greek Wedding; manager Phyllis Stein in the film version of the rock musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch; Moogie, Quark's iconoclastic mother on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine; and the current waitress on the Bounty paper towel TV commercials. Fans of The Simpsons may also recognize Martin as the voice of Apu's mother, who appears in the episode "The Two Mrs. Nahasapeemapetilons."
In 1992, she made her Broadway debut as Alice Miller, King Kaiser's former performing parter turned comedy writer, in the musical My Favorite Year. The performance earned Martin a Tony award. In 2005 she hosted the 25th Annual Genie Awards. Along with the rest of SCTV she received the Earle Grey Award at the Gemini's in 1995. Later in the same year, Martin played the part of Golde in Fiddler on the Roof on Broadway opposite Harvey Fierstein.
She has two sons with ex-husband Bob Dolman, Joe and Jack.
