John Forsythe (born John Lincoln Freund on January 29, 1918) is an American actor. He is probably best known for his role of Blake Carrington on the ABC prime time soap opera, Dynasty.

Forsythe attended the University of North Carolina, and after graduation moved to New York City and studied with The Actors Studio. Forsythe began his career as an announcer for the Brooklyn Dodgers, quickly moving on to radio soap operas. He eventually drifted towards Broadway. He obtained a contract with Warner Brothers studio and made his first film during this time, Destination Tokyo, with Cary Grant. After serving in the United States Army Air Corps during the Second World War, he returned to Broadway and made occasional television appearances.

In 1957, Forsythe moved to Hollywood to star in the television program, Bachelor Father, which ran until 1962. He was nominated for an Emmy for this role. He went onto film several other television programs, including The John Forsythe Show, To Rome With Love, Dynasty, and The Powers That Be. He was also the voice of Charlie on the hit show, Charlie's Angels and its movie-remakes.

During his television career, Forsythe also continued to make movies. Several of the better known films were The Trouble with Harry, In Cold Blood, and Topaz. He also appeared on Broadway during those years.

Forsythe has been married twice. He was divorced from his first wife, Parker McCormick, with whom he had one son, Dall. His second wife, Julie Warren, died in 1994. They had two daughters, Page and Brooke.

A lifelong smoker, Forsythe was forced to quit when his physician told him in 1982 that he was an ideal candidate for emphysema.
