From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia
Gwen Ifill (born September 29, 1955) is a journalist for PBS. She graduated at Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts. She has also received eight honorary degrees. She serves on the board of Harvard University's Institute of Politics and the University of Maryland, College Park's Philip Merrill College of Journalism.
She earlier worked for the Boston Herald, the Baltimore Sun, the Washington Post, the New York Times, and NBC. Ifill became moderator of the PBS program Washington Week in Review in October 1999 and is also senior correspondent for the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer. On October 5, 2004 she moderated the vice presidential debate between Dick Cheney and John Edwards. During the debate, she asked Senator Edwards the bizarre non sequitur question "John Kerry comes from the state of Massachusetts, which has taken as big a step as any state in the union to legalize gay marriage. Yet both you and Senator Kerry say you oppose it. Are you trying to have it both ways?"
