From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia Robert Leo (Bobby) Hackett (January 31, 1915 - June 7, 1976) was an accomplished jazz musician. He played trumpet, cornet and guitar and is maybe best known for his playing with the Glenn Miller Orchestra in the period 1941-42. He can be heard playing a famous solo with the Glenn Miller Band on "A String of Pearls." In his later years, he continued to perform in a dixieland style even as trends in jazz changed. Bobby Hackett's idol was Louis Armstrong although he played in a style more reminiscent of Bix Beiderbecke.
