From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia Martyn Green (1899 - 1975) was an actor primarily known for his work in Gilbert & Sullivan operettas. He joined D'Oyly Carte in 1922 as a chorus member and taking small solo parts. He soon began to accumulate the comic baritone parts and in 1934, Sir Henry Lytton's retirement left him as the primary comic baritone for D'Oyly Carte. He appeared in that company's film version of The Mikado in the role of Koko in 1938. In 1939, WWII caused the compay to cease performances. Martyn Green joined the Royal Air Force, and was replaced by Grahame Clifford at D'Oyly Carte during the war. After the war, he returned to his principal position in the company. He participated in the postwar mono recordings by D'Oyly Carte until he left the company after 1951. He left the company to settle in New York, appearing in recordings, on stage, and television. He died in 1975.
