From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia

Andy Hui Chi-On (Traditional Chinese: 許志安), (born August 12, 1967 in Hong Kong) is a Hong Kong popstar and a movie actor, first appeared at the 5th New Star Singing Contest in 1986, which he did not win.

He has since appeared in about 25 films, and currently, his popularity is fluctuating with the moderate success of both his onscreen performances and his musical career. Andy Hui is best known for his (often) style of romance like a prince.

He is one of the most successful Chinese music celebrities, with an extensive list of Cantonese and Mandarin hits to his credit. His first music contract came in 1996, but his singing career reached stellar status in 2001 as he "won" awards of the most favourite male singer, though limited competition was on offer back then.

His romantic life has somewhat been in close scrutiny by the Hong Kong press although he claims that he is single now. His supposed girlfriend (tipped by the press) is another superstar singer called Sammi Cheng. However, they have claimed to have separated in 2004. These absurd and tiresome stories have at times overshadowed his supposedly "excellent" musical career, arguably brought about by himself to ignite the press' interest. In fact, some argue whether he'd be where he is today (though he is still in no way a megastar in Asian terms) without the help of his alleged girlfriend.

Recently, he was named as one of the 'New Four Heavenly Kings' along with Hacken Lee, Leo Ku and Edmond Leung which would be replacing the once lustrous title awarded to Jacky Cheung, Andy Lau, Aaron Kwok and Leon Lai. Evidently, there is debate about whether he actually deserves to be included on this list with his alleged limited singing ability. However, his mentor, Anita Mui has worked hard to impart her impressive singing ability on him and would not have painstakingly done so had he not have the conviction and talent to succeed. He was credited for being a hardworking artiste and such allegations may be unfounded.
