Alex Katunich a.k.a. Dirk Lance, was born August 18, 1976, and was the former bassist and one of the founding members of Incubus (and the youngest member). During his time with Incubus, he went by the name of Dirk Lance. He stayed with Incubus on bass guitar for over 13 years until he left in 2003, and was replaced by former The Roots guitarist Ben Kenney.
Dirk Lance is considered by many to be a virtuoso of the bass guitar.
