#88 Marvin Harrison, star wide receiver of the Indianapolis Colts.

Marvin Daniel Harrison (born August 25, 1972, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is an American football player who played for Syracuse University and is currently playing in the NFL for the Indianapolis Colts.

Football Career

At Syracuse University he set school records for most receiving yards in a career, average yards per game, and most recieving yards in a single season.

Currently, Harrison is one of the key components of the Colt's current offensive juggernaut alongside Peyton Manning and Edgerrin James. He was drafted in 1996 by the Colts out of Syracuse University as the 19th overall pick.

In his high school years Harrison was also a star football and basketball player at Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Marvin Harrison beats double coverage and tips the ball into the air with his right hand and then manages to reach and catch it. This was maybe the most amazing catch of the 2003 NFL season.

Career Notables

  • Third all time in receiving TDS with 101. Harrison surpassed NFL legends Steve Largent and Tim Brown on Sunday, October 2, 2005.
  • From 1999 to 2002, Harrison had 4 consecutive 100 or more catch seasons. He also tied Jerry Rice for most seasons with 100 catches or more (4 seasons). Jerry Rice did accomplish 4 100 catch seasons.
  • Is currently on a streak of 6 straight 1,000+ receiving yard seasons, and 10 or more receiving TDs.
  • Is the Colts all time leader in literally every category, except YPC (Yards Per Catch) average and YAC (Yards After Catch) average.
  • 6th on the all time reception list.
  • Ranks 5th all time in receiving TDs.
  • Has led the league in both receptions and receiving yards twice.
  • In the past six seasons (not counting the current 2005 season), Marvin Harrison has finished in the top 4 in receiving TDs each year. He has finished twice 4 times.

NFL Records

  • Highest reception average per regular season, with an amazing 86, and the average will go only up considering it is only three games into the 2005 season.
  • At the end of the 2004 season Harrison was averaging 94 receptions per season (93.8 rounded), which is an all time record (which he still holds), he was well ahead of second place Sterling Sharpe who averaged 85 receptions per season.
  • Holds the record for most Receptions in a single season with 143, obliterating the previous record of 123 set by Herman Moore.
  • Only player to have four consecutive 100 or more reception seasons in NFL history.
  • Achieved 800 career receptions faster than any player before him.
  • Became the only player ever in the history of the NFL to have six double digit reception games in one single season in the 2002 regular season.
  • Also became the only player in NFL history to have 12 8 or more reception games in one season in 2002.
  • In the first 10 years of his career he has accumulated 860 receptions. No one has ever had a higher reception total after his first 10 seasons in the league (Harrison is only 3 games into the 2005 season, so this total will no doubt grow]].
