Tony MacAlpine (born August 29, 1960) is a neo-classical shred, and later jazz shred guitarist. Tony is also a classical trained pianist and plays all the keyboard parts on his own albums. He has often been accused of imitating the style of Yngwie Malmsteen (sometimes by Malmsteen himself), but as his career has progressed, his style has diverged significantly from Yngwie's.
MacAlpine has played in Steve Vai's band on guitars and keyboards and is featured on Steve Vai's Live at the Astoria London DVD as well as on the live G3 DVD, Live in Denver. He also played guitar on Vai's latest album, Real Illusions: Reflections, as well as on the Real Illusions tour.
MacAlpine was born in Springfield, Massachusetts.
