Todd Carty (born August 31, 1963) is a British actor.

Born Todd Carty in Ireland in 1963, his first television appearance in the UK was in an advertisement for Woolworths at the age of four. Others quickly followed such as "Plum Rose sausages", "Tonka toys", "Uncle Bens Rice", "Green Cross Code" with Jon Pertwee and many more. Since then he has had a number of notable roles in British television shows, including Tucker Jenkins in Grange Hill (and the spin off series Tucker's Luck) Mark Fowler in EastEnders and PC Gabriel (David) Kent in The Bill.

He made his first stage appearance at the New London Theatre, Drury Lane as the young Lional in Lional Bart's autobiographical musical, "Lional". His early television career included roles in "Z Cars", "Our Mutual Friend", "Drummer", "Headmaster", "Focus On Britain", "The Idle Bunch", "The Gangs All Here". Film work has included "Krull", "Professor Poppers Problems" "The Magic Trip", "Please Sir", "The Gangs OK", "A question of balance", "Serve them right", "The Candy show" award winning comedy fantasy film, where he played Randy Candy and "The Black Velvet Band", a Victorian western filmed in South Africa, playing one of the leaders of a gang of thieves with his friend and co-star Nick Berry..

Carty took over the role of Mark Fowler in EastEnders from 1990 to 2002, following the departure (and later suicide) of the original actor, David Scarboro. In 2003, he went on to play the sadistic, malevolent PC Gabriel (really David) Kent in The Bill for which he won a best tv bad guy award.

Other roles have included narrations for "Paddington Green", "Scene in New York", "The Jungle Creatures", "The Temples of Rome", "Blood On The Sword", "Streets Apart", "The Fame Game", "Snap Shot-Eddie Kidd story" and "Driving Mum Crazy". Carty has also starred in pantomime as Buttons in "Cinderella", the Captain's mate in "Dick Whittington" and Ali Baba in the BBC Christmas production of "Aladdin". Carty once again starred as Tucker Jenkins, this time on stage, in a dramatic musical version of Tucker as a school caretaker, "Grange Hill Tuckers Return".

"Eastenders tribute to Todd Carty(Mark Fowler)". Carty made a brief return to "Grange Hill" as the legendary Tucker Jenkins, introducing his nephew to the famous comprehensive school.

Carty has many radio credits which include, "Les Miserables", "The Three loves of Ida Bliss", "Wavelength", "Midweek", "Jonathan Ross show", "Johnny Vaughn show", "Harry Hills fruit corner", "London Particulars", "Jelly Bones".

Carty was the subject of a This Is Your Life show in 2000. Where he was surprised by Michael Aspel on the set of EastEnders.

Carty's role in EastEnders was critically acclaimed; he was one of the first actors on British television to portray someone living with HIV.

In 2005, it was announced that Carty had quit his high profile role in The Bill. His final episode was screened on 6 October 2005. Carty exited the series in dramatic style, described as a cross between, James Cagney shouting "Made it ma, top of the world" in "White Heat" and Bill sykes end in "Oliver Twist", but with a twist of its own, with his character, Gabriel Kent leaping to his death from a high rise block of flats.

Carty stars as the evil King Rat with Basil Brush this christmas in "Dick Whittington" at The Swan theatre High Wycombe.

Carty lives in North London with his childhood sweetheart, actress Dina Clarkin and their two sons James aged 9 and Thomas aged 5.

Carty and Clarkin are busy on the other side of the camera, concentrating on "Swordfish Productions", the film and TV company they set up in 2005, and are considering a number of tv and film scripts for future production.
