Stacie's Start

Stacie has stayed genuine and true to herself by maintaining a focus that has its roots in her upbringing. One of five kids, Stacie is home-schooled and was born in Seattle, WA and moved to Denver, CO as a young child. The Orrico household was always filled with music and two years ago, the family decided to attend Praise in the Rockies, a Christian artist seminar held at Estes Park, Colorado. "I figured it would be fun," Stacie muses, "and I just wanted to see the concerts." With a friend's encouragement Stacie entered what she thought was just a little competition, purely for the fun of it. The competition turned out to be a much bigger event than Stacie or her family realized, and much to her shock, Stacie, who was only 12 years old at the time, won. Stacie was by her own admission blown away. But what would make the event even more memorable was when the Executive Vice President of A&R at ForeFront Records heard Stacie and approached her family about signing her to a developmental deal. "My family didn't even pursue this, we just knew that if God wanted it to happen it would. And it did."

Since then, she has released two albums, "Genuine" in 2000 when she was 14 years of age which produced the hit single "Don't Look At Me" which topped Christian Charts for 10 consecutive weeks, and the more mainstream and self-titled "Stacie Orrico" in 2003, which charted in the US Billboard Top 200, Australian ARIAnet and the United Kingdom albums charts. The first single from this album was "Stuck", and went top 3 in Australia and top 10 in the UK singles charts. This was followed by the single "(There's Gotta Be) More To Life", which also charted and went top 20 in Australia and the UK. This was then followed by "I Promise" (top 30 in the UK), and the latest single "I Could Be The One" (top 40 in the UK on June 2004).

Genuine, sold over 13,000 copies the first week making her the First New Female Christian artist with the highest sales ever! "Genuine" has sold 500,000 copies thus far, the album is certified Gold. Her sophomore effort, "Stacie Orrico" debuted at #67 on the Billboard 200 and has sold over 500,000 copies so far in the US and is certified Gold. "Stacie Orrico" has sold 600,000 in Japan and 2.5 million copies worldwide.

Controversy

Several conservative Christians have criticized Stacie in recent years for being secular, and dressing like Britney Spears. However, others feel that such claims are exaggerated. In fact, Orrico made headlines in February 2004 for publicly criticizing Spears and Christina Aguilera for being poor role models for young girls because of the way they dressed, which she called "degrading" (see article).
