Angela Vía or AJ (born December 29, 1981 as Angela Jolene Trullinger) is a Latina Mexican-American singer/songwriter from Texas.

Angela was born in Raymondville, Texas. Her family moved to Gresham, Oregon, a suburb of Portland, Oregon, when she was nine. Although she currently lives in Oregon, she makes frequent trips to Los Angeles, California. Angela created her stage name Vía by using a shortened version of her mother's maiden name, Villarreal. Angela uses whistle register technique in her recordings; she hit a C7 in her debut single Picture Perfect.

Information

Angela had her first experience in a professional recording studio in 1996, where she recorded various songs from her favourite artists, such as Selena Quintanilla's "Amor Prohibido" and Mariah Carey's "Hero". In 1997 she recorded the Diane Warren-penned classic by Whitney Houston,"You Were Loved" for a Cans For Kids CD. She also performed at The Wedding Singer movie premiere in Hollywood.

It was in 1999 that Angela’s music career really started to move and she mangaed to obtain a seven album record deal with Lava/Atlantic Records. Her first release with the company was a contribution to the Pokémon: The First Movie soundtrack with a song called "Catch Me If You Can".

In May of 2000 Angela released her self-penned debut single "Picture Perfect", and the Spanish version, "Retrato Perfecto". The CD-single sold over 110,000 copies within months and received airplay at New York's Z100 and KTU. There was also an Australian release of the single. The music video featured the Smallville actor Tom Welling. The video received the status of a "TRL Wannabe” and received heavy videoplay on The Box and MTV. Angela's second single, "I Don't Care", was released in September of 2000 and it also spent several weeks in Billboard's Hot 100 Singles Sales chart. "I Don't Care" was covered a year later by Australian singer Delta Goodrem.

During 2000 Angela guest-starred on the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful and performed on Nickelodeon's Snick House. During this time Angela was also featured on two more movie soundtracks: The Little Vampire with the song "Best Friends", and Pokémon 2000 with the song "Wonderland". Angela also performed on nearly every day of the All That Music & More Festival summer tour. It was in 2000 that Her self-titled debut album, Angela Via was scheduled to be released by the end of the year, but both the English and the Spanish version of the album were never released.

In 2001 Angela was scheduled to record a music video with Lance Bass and Joey Fatone of *NSYNC. Atlantic Records stated that Angela had to slim down and dress more provocatively for the video, but when Angela rejected Atlantic's offer and the video was cancelled. A TRL Christmas album was released at the end of 2001 that featured one of Angela’s songs. Atlantic re-named Angela's self-penned track, "Wish We Could Be Free", to Christmas Wish as her contribution. She was also offered was offered two movie roles.

In 2002, Angela recorded a commercial for Six Flags in which she performed a new song, "Papi Chulo". The commercial was aired in several major cities across the U.S. Soon after the commercial was filmed, Atlantic dropped several artists from their roster, including Angela. Her song "Girl Playa No. 1" was featured on CBS's The District.

In 2003, Angela's song, "Kissing You", was featured in the blockbuster hit, Boat Trip, starring Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Roselyn Sanchez. She also starred in a Christian sitcom, Pastor Greg (which was released on DVD in 2004). The Chinese girl group T-Rush recorded a Chinese verison of Angela’s “Girl Playa No. 1”, and salsa artist Kevin Ceballo recorded a remake of Angela's duet with Frankie Negron, "Eternamente Te Amare". An online petition for the release of her album was created by fans on Petition Online in 2003 and her song "Papi Chulo" reached #1 on a popular mp3 website on Cinco de Mayo.

In 2004 Angela's official website was revamped and her site averaged more visits than ever. Her debut album,Angela Via, was finally released by Atlantic Records on RealPlayer. In 2005 Angela still continues to write songs for the Sony ATV Publishing affiliate Gruvia Productions where they are being delivered to both new and established artists. She has also began recording a new demo which will be sent to various record labels.
